Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch
Nanami Lucia is a princess of the North Pacific, one of the seven mermaid kingdoms. In order to return the pearl given by a boy who met an accident in the sea when she was small, she came to the human world.
Holding the faint hope… “I may be able to meet my first love.”
Domoto Kaito, a teen-surfer whom Lucia accidentally met upon her coming to the human’s world, was attacked by a “suiyou” (water demon). Actually, Kaito was the boy Lucia had once saved.
Lucia, embracing her faint love for Kaito, transformed using the power of the pearl, defeated the “suiyou” by holding the mike in one hand singing and dancing!

The subs on Ep 45 are jumbled up I hope this isn’t your idea of April folls day because I’m not laughing.

We did it for fun and it’s supposed to be just that. I had lots of fun making it, and the others did too.
It’s to blow off some steam on always trying to be perfect, while adding some comedy to everything.

And, by the way, it’s not like we get PAID to sub this show for you so if you want to only criticize, please do it constructively.

Despite the fact, that they are doing a REAL great job on these series, my fingers already got to tingle, i can’t await the next episodes! I really hope you will focus more on MMPPP, there aren’t so many episodes left, and i really like the fact, that this old series is finally getting some english sub, even though my native language isn’t english haha (it’s german^^)!

I’ve noticed the subtitles are exactly the same as the ones Lunaranime used how did you duplicate them so perfectly ?

Probably the biggest step in this is to determine the fonts used… without the fonts, everything else sorta falls apart. A good number of the fancy fonts you can find on DaFont, so that really just leaves the main dialogue font. With a bit of coaxing, you can get some web-based tools such as the ones listed here to give you tips on this last one. (If you notice, I didn’t mention anything of the karaoke here… I honestly have no clue what fonts got used there.)
Once you got that, then it’s a matter of getting a subtitle line to line up with the hardsubbed counterpart to within a pixel. This takes a lot of time on a zoomed-in overlay in Aegisub. ;p One can generally assume, at least, that the values used were round numbers (which fortunately turned out to be correct).
As for the colors, I actually wrote myself a tool to help on this one. In short, I look for times when specific characters speak, then examine the overlay (from the previous step) for where the color of the overlay was pure black/white. I then use that location (without the overlay) as an extraction point to grab a color sample. Do that at least five times per color (and everyone has at least two colors…. the inner color and the border) and get an average of the values.
To help in styling sanity and consistency, I wrote an Aegisub automation script, which styles the lines according to the Actor and Effect values (ie, Lucia is pink). Unfortunately, the way I (ab)used Aegisub, I did uncover a few bugs in things…. the bigger one which broke my script, is fixed in the latest version (2.1.8). *^_^*

I would say it’s due to the great lexica-chan technique. She used quite a bit of effort, using various methods including trying to kill aegisub. On how to duplicate them so perfectly, it’s better to ask lexica-chan herself personally.
I’m curious once you move onto Pure are you going to start at the beginning or at Episode 8 where Naisho-Fansubs left off ?
We will start from Ep 8. Continuing to finish all unsubbed episodes is the first priority, then MAYBE unless we get tired, first then we could return to older episodes. We aren’t focusing on resubbing earlier episodes at the moment with all the current projects we have.
It’s a pitty. You do such great subs, but still concentrate more on Yumeio Patissiere (well, think of: @Yumeio Patissiere you need around 10days for 1 episode, @MMM you need around a month though =/). I would love more of your MMM subs and faaaaaster!

Yeah, and for Yumeiro we need to make v2 of virtually every script. I’ve kept a changelog of ep 1 so far and it’s over 31 changes. And that doesn’t include all the minor stuff lol, like retiming.

it wasn’t Italian. It was just a joke with multi-language translation and some dumb lines added in.
No, Asa, he meant it literally. He can see the show with jap voices in English here instead of the cut-out Italian one, they love to remove and add scenes when they do dubs.

My daughters (7 and 12) have been bugging me for this ever since they discovered the comics at the library. It will make a pleasant change from Power Puff Girls Zero and Astro Boy – at last something with originality AND quality. Love your work. I appreciate the sheer effort it must take… 91 episodes total across both series. That’s a LOT of time fighting with keyboards, video editors and trasnslations. Seems you’ve managed to keep your sanity, too

I figure one direct reason had to be the torrenting problems. That means other things had to be involved, but what exactly those are, that isn’t known to the rest of us on the outside.
I’ll let you know if I see errors to correct in the last two episodes for the v2 batch. I found a couple before in that aforementioned episode, so at least you have me on as “the v2 guy”. Hopefully that test file will be done soon, though.

Nope we are moving this to completed since it is pretty much done(Besides some little details with 1-23 which we’ll hit later). Pure gets it’s own page.
