Tantei Opera Milky Holmes BD Vol. 2 released!

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes BD Vol. 2 released!

Never thought we would get this out, eh? Here’s volume 2 for you loli archivers. No specials in this volume to my knowledge. Next volume ETA unknown, possibly more progress when our other distro gets back and reports on bdiso statuses. For the newcomers wondering about the lack of 1080p, refer to this post. 1080p out once BF3000 encodes them. Enjoy!

Seeding for episode 3 torrent is really bad for some reason.
episode 1 and 2 as well as specials are fine

Apologies for the lack of initial seeding. Torrent regulator’s computer is (still) broken, our main distro is on vacation, one backup distro is getting married soon, and two other backup distros are MIA. That leaves us with a backup distro and a half plus a single bot in the channel; both distros are online only in the dead of night for us folks here in PST-CST-EST land as well. Of course, this wouldn’t be a problem if everyone actually always protected the rule of 1.00 ratio or higher…

But at any rate, you can always access the files off the DDL or backup DDL or bot in IRC, even if they’re only slightly faster than the torrent for you.

I’ve gotten so used to torrents, I’ve completely overlooked the DDL links 😛
        Thanks for reminding me 🙂
Though the torrent seeding seems to be much faster today.

please stop using ogg … use h.264 + FLAC for BD releases.

As we recognize that the majority of the anime fanbase does not have either 1) ears trained enough to tell the difference 2) sound systems nor headphones good enough to output the difference 3) a dog to tell the difference for them 4) the bandwidth nor patience to download the extra 100~200MB of bloat per episode, even if HDD space were readily available 5) any combination of the above, we shall keep our consistency of OGG-encoded releases, until such a time that the demographic of the fanbase changes to being massive audiophiles instead of people who just want to watch their anime. We will, however, keep encoding in h.264 as you have suggested. 😉

Now one thing I’m not sure about but thought held true fairly evenly across the board for fansubbing groups: Was it not policy to release the source material’s highest resolution with the highest quality audio? As we are not releasing 1080p for reasons outlined in our post for Volume 1, we therefore also feel no need to release the full lossless audio just to gain the minor benefits involved. Such high-fidelity audio sounds best if the source were actually 5.1 or higher, but in Milky Holmes’ case, this sadly isn’t so, being mastered only in 2.0. There are notable raw groups out there that have done supermassive 1080p+FLAC batches if you wish to remux them with our releases, however.

      Also, >lolFLAC on Milky Holmes
Perhaps the only episodes where the lossless audio would work efficiently in is in the battle scenes, maybe just even in episode 12. Anywhere else is just wasted bitrate, except perhaps for Twenty’s voice-overs 😀 But seriously, the original soundtracks and OP/ED singles have been released in FLAC. Go get them if you so wish. This is not Break Blade or Evangelion where the amazing soundtracks and every single footstep and gunshot and badass mecha kathunk is significant enough to the viewing experience to be deemed lossless quality for archiving.

Our encoder strongly prefers Vorbis as well, even sometimes re-encoding the original AAC audio from the transport stream raws instead of just remuxing it. Anyone is welcome to discuss exactly why with him on IRC. Of course, if any new encoders step forward for us and wish to do lossless audio on their own encodes, then we will honor that. We value the input of our own members first and foremost, after all.

If you need some high quality releases go to some RAW group like Yousei, THORA, Coalgirls or other like this.
      This is an econom-class release.

  3. Any ETA on when Tantei Opera Milky Holmes BD Volume 3 will be fansubbed and released by Wasurenai?
